Story behind the song
Turning My Safety "Off.."
So there's this song that one of my team members kept on playing all day. So it was such a bluesy tune that I was so attuned to it. So it was sung by a girl named Kat of a band named Sino SiKat. And so, it goes, being a songwriter, I was curious as to what the song was about.
So I hunted the Internet for Sino SiKat. So I found a few sites, mainly one that has the lyrics for the song. And so goes my journey into oblivion.
It was bound to happen. I wrote a song that happened to be an antithesis of another.
"Turning my Safety Off" was about being ready to fall in love. It's about losing one's inhibition to plunge into that emotionally driven hooplah that raises our heart rates and gives us butterflies in our food sacs. It's about letting go of a supposed nature that holds back one's step forward.
I was bound to hear it, eventually. Nowadays I am more exposed to a lot more music, mainly because of 17 designers all around me listening to music all day.
But it was that one particular song that made a mark on me.
I've turned my safety on. I refuse to fall, even though all the signs are there. Even though I know i've already fallen, I step a few paces back to assess myself; to gauge if my move would be good for me in the long run.
Then I saw her. The woman behind the voice I have been hearing all day for the last few days. And I felt my heart skip a beat.
Make that two.
But I know, regardless of those missing heartbeats, I would have to recover it from somewhere.
-----
I’m turning my safety off
I’m ready to talk to you
Alone
A kiss, a hug, another drink
Puts me right back to
Denial of persistent memory
-----
Hey babe, just wanna talk to you
The coffee's good; let's have a beer or two
The movie's bad. Just drink the night away.
I'm all alone, I know you are as well.
Maybe you and I have tales to tell
I know it's weird we don't know what to say...
------
So I want to. But I can't.
And thus my safety's on still...
Lyrics
Hey babe, just wanna talk to you
The coffee's good, let's a have a beer or two
The movie's bad, just drink the night away
I'm all alone, I know you are as well
Maybe you and I have tales to tell
I know it's weird we don't know what to say
No matter how hard you try to hide
You know that I'll see it in your eyes
No matter whatever you're thinking of
Don't fall in love
Hearts are beating, temperatures rising
The scents and senses, so mezmerizing
How did we ever end up in this state
Flutterbyes, don't know what else to do
You wanted me to tell you what I wanted too
Could we stop before it's all too late
Accidents happen every day
But nothing like this to me
Oh I can't pretend, no I can't be scared at all
No, maybe it's just a mistake
No matter whatever you're thinking of
You don't have to look at the stars above
No matter whatever you're thinking of
Don't fall in love
