Soloist. Songwriter/singer. ASCAP member. A NICE WITNESS FOR CHRIST There is an extensive interview of me done by Scott Crawford, at . Do not let the site name alarm you. It is an "adult-themed music and entertainment" site. It is not a porn site, and you will not get tagged for spam if you go there. Scott is a journalist of integrity, who asked pertinent and penetrating questions, then printed my answers verbatim. Both God and His son received much attention in the interview. REVIEWS: "Fancy keyboard playing is the backdrop for this positive and upbeat collection. Hackley's vocals are reminiscent of Burl Ives." Review by Brent Castillo, The Wichita Eagle, March 5, 2005. "world's wimpiest Christian rocker". Brother Russell Podcast; : INFLUENCES (a very lengthy list, ending with...) "and of course, Richard Hackley." "Yet the songs on the Worst of the Worst can be compelling in their awfulness. Songs like Richard Hackley's rabble-rousing, hackles-raising spiritual God's Backhand ("We're not talking about tennis or Ping-Pong!") "; "Richard Hackley... HUGE musical influence. And a real bad mofo live.";

Story behind the song
This is from my musical "Nehemiah: Rebuilder". The speaker in the song is Nehemiah, and he's explaining why he's so successful in the project God gave him.
Lyrics
(v.1) God spoke to His prophets throughout the days of old. I'm glad that they wrote down so much of things that they were told. 'Cause I love to read their writing. It guides me constantly. And if I would never hear straight from God, that would not stop me. (c.1) I trust in what is written. I read it frequently. God's word is full of wisdom. I want it in my memory. I trust in what is written. (v.2) When David fought the giant he did not fight alone, For he knew of God's promise made centuries before. For God had spoken plainly, and it was written down by Moses. The Lord had said, "Trust in me and no one can oppose us." (c.2) David trusted in what is written. He needed nothing new. What all the others had forgotten is what saw David through. He trusted in what is written. (v.3) And when Messiah shall come to make us strong again, He will be the master at hearing revelation. But just God's voice alone (though it whispers like the wind) Won't be all he knows (there's more on which he will depend). He will have done his homework (he'll know where wisdom must begin) He'll also know the scrolls (from beginning to the end). (c.3) He'll trust in what is written. He will have read it all. He will have seen his purpose as he read through the law. He'll trust in what is written.
