a song inspired by tribal wisdom
rock piano vocals harmony funk jazz instrumental blues experimental rhythm and blues improvisation multi genre
Hi! I'm a guitarist, singer and songwriter currently living in Fredericton, N.B., Canada. I've been performing music in one way or another since the mid '60's, starting out singing tenor in a barbershop quartet with my brothers and then into a progression of bands playing rock, jazz, blues and country and... whatever. It's been a fun ride so far and I'm still as exited about it as the day I began. Ralph Atkinson

Story behind the song
In the mid '90's, after watching a documentary on the creation myths of the aboriginal Australians, I was inspired to write the lyrics to this song. The music came shortly after. At one time my band performed this as the first song in a trilogy and I had written some transitions to link the 3 songs together. This version has been extracted from that and it contains some elements of those linking transitions which are pre echoes of the next song.
Lyrics
Mystics and scholars unbutton their collars and dance in the dreamtime the dust of light held together formed by sheer will in the night man woman child both ancient and new dance in the dreamtime they sing a song of life together to hold it all still for a moment dancing a line, a circular line a meeting place for all points in time dreamtime dreamtime Stars and planet, moons and molecules dance in the dreamtime spinning and stalling, pushing and pulling mad matter in flight birth and life and death and birth and life in the dreamtime all movement made together perfect at every moment dancing a line, a circular line a meeting place for all points in time dreamtime dreamtime

Such a perfect balance here, which makes the song so quiet and beautiful. I just feel such a natural and unforced sound here. Very good job.

Nicely done Ralph, a neat song with great guitars and the vocal mix reminds me of Alan Parsons, love it!

This is inspired - truly original. Genre-defying, one of those rare songs that doesn't sound like anything else, but sounds familiar like you've known it for years. Great vocal and lyrics, wonderful understated playing, yep I'll need to take this for my iPod thanks. Great work Ralph!
