Story behind the song
Got totally disillusioned trying to write music to a formula and style just to impress the musos who run the industry. Now I couldn't care less and write what I want to write in the style that suits me.
Lyrics
Verse 1 Those who bathe in affluence are drowning in their rivers They are jury and the judge, the law enforcing officers Self preservation, how they manipulate Verse 2 Listen you who criticise, a minstrel and his music Created with simplicity, I want to hear you use it You may have the power, but you really mean nothing to me I reserve the right to challenge the kings Chorus 1 Self elected kings of the airwaves I give my regards to you all I have no more need to impress you, au revoir, au revoir (repeat) Link I may not be influenced by fashion I want to be myself and no one else Lead Break Chorus 2 Kings of the waves you don’t rule the ocean I have aright to sail on the sea Why should I beg to seek your permission Why don’t you listen to me (repeat) Verse 3 While I sing this song for you my spirit is rejoicing It’s good to be one with myself no more compromising Self preservation, a lesson I learnt from you I reserve the right to challenge the kings Chorus 1 Self elected etc Chorus 2 Kings of the waves etc Choruses 1 & 2 Cross vocal choruses and harmonies (repeat three times)
