Story behind the song
I performed this piece on the alto clarinet with the Delta Concert Band under the direction of Rob Calhoun in 1986 April 15 in a joint concert with the South Delta Senior Secondary concert band. I worked very hard on the beguine section since it has some tricky parts going over the hump and the alto horn is fussy (I called it "Fred" after the cartoon Fred the basset hound). However, due to the mike not being close enough to me, the balance between the solo and the band is not good and you can't hear the solo very well.
The original analogue audio tape sound quality is not that great but Bruce Norris, friend, musician and recording engineer, boosted the volume as much possible without distortion. It was digitized and cleaned up as much as possible.
