Story behind the song
In 1964 everyone began transitioning from Doo Wop to newer sounds that were flooding the AM airwaves. This is one of our first "transition" songs - newer sounding, but with still a hint of Doo Wop harmonies. Hope the song fares as well as the girl it was written for...she and I were married in 1969 and we're still together today!
Lyrics
I just met the perfect girl.
She's gonna change my whole world.
I think she's for me, her name is Kathleen.
She's got long hair and sparkling eyes.
The kind that almost hypnotize.
I just can't believe she likes me.
So I said, "Let's take a ride in my LeMans".
We drove along as I held her hand.
It felt so right, it was ecstasy.
I meet her every day at three outside here school and when she sees me she cries, "Hey, Jimmy, ain't you sweet"!
She said her parents want to know who's this guy that makes her glow.
They just need to meet this guy you've been seeing.
So I went to her apartment and met her dad and her mom, at first we stared and sat.
But in the end, I won them over easily.
Now we're together night and day.
I knew it would turn out this way, cause she's the one for me,
my Kathleen.
She's the one for me, my Kathleen.
