An upbeat and quirky pop-inspired song - could almost be a part of a musical
Mix of pop, rock, classical, prog rock...
It's just me - Dave Chick.
I compose and write songs for film and TV.
Story behind the song
This came from a recent conversation I eaves-dropped on between two couples chatting about the pros and cons of being single. This song, you could probably guess, is the committed relationship point of view.
Lyrics
Verse1:
If I had to, why yes I'd fight for her honour,
White horse, lance and shield
Happily ever after
If I had to, I'd brave the glitter and bedlam,
Bluster, swagger, pose
didja get my good side?
PreChorus1:
I can't deal with
second guesses, waste my time with all those games
He said, she said, paranoia
empty freedom's not my thing
Verse2:
If I had to, I'd get caught glancing in her eyes
cautious sport and dance
She Saw Me!
If I had to, I'd bide time anxious for her lifeline
all can now resume
with a lighter step
PreChorus2:
I can't deal with
second guesses and roll the dice in all those games
He said, she said, paranoia
an endless treadmill's not my thang
Chorus:
I've given up
I've given up
I've given up
I've given up on chasing empty choices
I've given up
I've given up
I've given up
I've given up on listening to empty voices
Bridge:
Don't want to keep my
guarded emotions
Can't see the point of
endless commotions
freedom, excitement
and no need to repent
are lonely illusions
I've found a reason
to stay right here
Outro:
If you had to,
I don't want to,
If I had to,
I don't have to
I've given up
I've given up
I've given up
I've given up
