Story behind the song
I watched Jack Ketchum's "The Girl Next Door" and was so upset at the ending that I just had to compose something to express my feelings. The result was fairly accurate. The whole piece is built off of the opening four notes. I tried to play it once myself, very slowly. I am not a good pianist but I know that I had accidentally put in a few spacing issues on the left hand on many occasions, but should this ever be performed, the person playing should know what they're doing on a piano, as well as take whatever liberties they desire on the piece, as I intended it to be very free. In the movie, the main female character is taken in by her aunt, I think, after her parents are killed in a car accident, leaving her and her little sister in need of a legal guardian. They come to live in this new town where the older girl soon meets the main male character. Though they never do more than hold hands, it couldn't be more obvious of their love for each other, especially at the end. Believed to be caving into mental instability at the thought of having two more mouths to feed, the aunt goes insane and ties up the older girl in the cellar so the neighborhood kids can torture and rape her. The final scene between her and the male character is very sad and very depressing, and I still am shocked at the outcome of the whole thing...
