Story behind the song
One of my all-time favorite songs is Eugene Record (ChiLites) & Barbara Acklin's "Have You Seen Her", and "Searching" is somewhat of a continuation of of that lyrical story. After all the years, that brokenhearted individual is STILL searching for his long lost love.
Lyrics
I sit all alone in a home that we once shared
my happiness all gone, cause she's no longer there
all by myself do I spend each day and night
there's no one else who could change this wrong to right - I need my baby
Where did my baby go, where is she
Where did my baby go, where is she
Without a single word to say, without even a wave goodbye
she took her precious love away, and left me here to cry
I walk every street, calling her name out loud
I'm hoping that I'll see her lovely face within the crowd
people look at me like I'm someone out of his mind
but that's all right with me, cause my baby I've got to find - I need my woman
Where did my baby go, where is she
Where did my baby go, where is she
I placed her on a pedestal, I raised her up so high
could it be that I loved her too much, could it be the reason why she's gone
I don't care how long it may take, or what price I may have to pay
I'm going to give it all that I've got, til I see her walking back my way
You know, I've often heard it said
that one doesn't know what he's had, until he's lost it
but I knew what I had, when I had it
and still I lost it
But life goes on, and I'll have to carry on
even in the sad shape that I am in
you see, I hang on to the faith, that I will find her one day
and that I'll hold her in my arms once again
I keep searching
Searching, searching, everywhere I'm searching
I've got to find her, I've got to find her
Searching, I'm searching, gotta keep on searching
gotta find my baby, I've got to find her
Searching, I'm searching, gotta keep on searching
I've got to find her, I've got to find her
Searching, I'm searching, gotta keep on searching
gotta find my baby, I've got to find her
