Story behind the song
The song is about the usenet newsgroup alt.dreams.castaneda. I wrote it as a straight jazz tune -- and when I find the time will redo it as one -- but it lent itself to a Mexican form, so I molded it that way attempting to depict the feel of one of those old Mexican tunes 'don Juan' allegedly used to hum. It's the first mp3 I ever made. The mix is awful, almost completely eliminating the piano, and the software put strange pops all through it, so it sounds like an old record being played in a dusty old town. The icon photo is Carlos Castaneda in 1969.
