Story behind the song
Sitting in a bedroom and listening to Pearl Jam, Mark grabbed the six string and let the inspiration drive. Originally written on an acoustic guitar, the electrified version on Superstone also features a guest vocal from AA friend Adam Singer and sports the only lead/counter-lead vocals on the LP. The lyrics deal with someone who has finally accepted the end of a relationship - terminated by someone having second thoughts. Hence, Don't Call Me.
Lyrics
I knew a girl who lived in her past I foolishly thought when I met her we’d last But I was wrong And now she’s gone Away What else can I say She never had anything to call home Nothing I did could make her feel less alone She’s all alone And cold as stone alone She’s cold as stone Don’t call me I’m not at home Don’t call me I won’t pick up the phone Please don’t say anything at all And please don’t you call me at all Always she lives for a moment that’s passed But then what transpired it left me aghast For she was hard And cold as stone She was alone Her heart’s a stone Don’t call me I’m not at home Don’t call me I won’t pick up the phone Please don’t say anything at all And please don’t you call me at all Don’t call me I’m not at home Don’t call me I won’t pick up the phone Please don’t say anything at all And please don’t you call me at all Don’t call me I’m not at home I’ve moved out Now no one is at home Please don’t say anything at all And please don’t you call me at all
