Story behind the song
Many of my closest friends are pow wow dancers. I've been attending the Stanford Pow Wow since I first moved to the Bay Area in 1993 and for a long time I was on the De Anza Pow Wow Committee and helped run that great pow wow, which usually occurred the weekend before Stanford. No one gets the blues more than Indins. After all, the American Indian Blues Society was founded in 1492. This song grew from an observation that all the pretty Indin women were either already married, had babies, or were underage. Seems like they go from "too young" to "got a baby and a man" in the blink of an eye. I wanted to create a song that celebrated real, current Indin culture, as opposed to that fake sh** from New Orleans, or men using the "s" word in old country and blues tunes.
