Story behind the song
At one time growing up in a sparsely-populated town where everyone knew everyone else and their business, lyricist Tank was no stranger to what some people called "the Grapevine." However, though rumors had little effect on him, he had seen others in his life deal with them much more harshly. And so, wondering how an individual with violent tendencies would react, he ended up writing this song about one such individual who would go to extreme lengths to quiet certain gossipmongers from telling downright lies...
