Story behind the song
When my baby girl was born somebody told me, "After you have a girl, you learn to hate MEN!" As I watch her grow (she's 6 now) and I imagine some greasy teenager asking her out (and hope he's not like I was...) I understand what he meant.
A friend of mine has three daughters. Each one told me that, on their wedding day, as their father stood ready to walk them up the aisle, he quietly leaned over and whispered into their ear, "If you are not absolutely CERTAIN this is the man you want to spend your life with, say so NOW! I'll pay for the dress, the caterer, the preacher, and never will a word be said about it. But once I walk you down this aisle... it's for LIFE!"
Thinking on that, this is my song to the young man who will one day say those vows to my little girl. And for all the other dads who will one day give their little girls away, hoping that their new son-in-law really means it too.
