The Dreams of Jenny
Jenny looked at the other girls as they strutted about
Although not allowed she wanted to go out
She looked at the pictures in her magazines
And lasting all day she fell into her dreams
Oh Jenny Jenny Jenny its not your fault, said mother and father its not your fault
You should blame us you should blame us, you should blame us you should blame us
Jenny didnt blame them she blamed herself
She looked in the mirror up on the shelf
She has strange arms and has strange legs
And not allowed cheese or milk or eggs
Oh Jenny Jenny Jenny its not your fault, said mother and father its not your fault
You should blame us you should blame us, you should blame us you should blame us
For years she has sat here knowing inside
That the day she was born was the day that she died
She could see no reason why she had to stay
Alone in this room just wasting away
Oh Jenny Jenny Jenny its not your fault, said mother and father its not your fault
You should blame us you should blame us, you should blame us you should blame us
So she had an idea and she worked it out
Like the other girls she would strut about
So she dreamed and she dreamed those wonderful dreams
And woke up next morning in those magazines
Oh Jenny Jenny Jenny its not your fault, said mother and father its not your fault
You should blame us you should blame us, you should blame us you should blame us
The parents were sad their Jenny had gone
They hugged themselves what did we do wrong
Their days now so dark and lasting for ages
But Jenny would shout from within her pages
Oh mother and father its not your fault
Said jenny said jenny its not your fault
I dont blame you I dont blame you
I dont blame you I love you
You know Jon this makes me cry. Seriously. As a father I feel so blessed not to have a Jenny and I really admire all parents with Jenny?s and of course all Jenny?s, because this belongs to the toughest things possible. And the solution you describe is a daydream of course but one that draws you in, that really gets you, gets to you. This, Jon and Larry, is magic! Love the tasteful piano, the synth tones, the way you let Larry?s voice breathe and dig into the story. Did you need the vocal FX in the "blame" part. I like to say no, but this is of course a composer?s freedom. Very strong stuff here, poetry and music!
