Story behind the song
wow, a song that isn't inspired by depression!
a few years ago, I was involved with a female friend who insisted on moving our casual relationship forward. I wasn't ready for commitment to this particular female; I barely knew her, and I don't think I was mature enough to accept that she was good for my withdrawn mentality. the majority of the song is told from my (at the time) immature standpoint, while the last part is from my current perspective.
(forgive my grammatical inconsistency - present tense fit better than past with respect to meter.)
i should've taken the red pill.
Lyrics
i know, you know, we all have some fun
these days it's best to prescreen
you have to choose well and keep the very best one
and make sure she's over eighteen.
well i guess you're pretty and you're silly yet kind
but that doesn't win my heart
you gotta prove to me that you're a special find
and then i guess we can start
what do you do
that makes you different from everyone else?
i'll wait no more than few minutes or less.
can you cook? do you clean? can you work the machine?
because washing by hand is a waste.
you know i like to party, and i'm very obscene
are you sure that I match your taste?
i can deal with a stubborn girl who makes lots of sound
this time is no different
i'll keep my best foot planted right into the ground
and cover it with cement.
what do you do
that makes you different from everyone else?
i'll wait no more than few minutes or less.
now i get how you're different from everyone else
you like me for the jerk i am
you buy everything, whatever i sell,
and you kick ass at playstation.
you know that i joke
i know you're different, and i like how you are
you'd do anything for me no matter how bizzare.
