It's sort of an auto-biographical song.
Lyrics
*This is an updated lyric. The recording is of older version, but not a lot different. Big Ol’ City Blues Copyright Sonny B. Bell He was born in nineteen-fifty-nine In a one horse Kansas town Dirt was nearly all you'd see For miles and miles around They taught him how to work the fields And make a livin' off the land But then he headed off to college And started makin' other plans He was tired of the endless hours That he'd spent out in the fields He had to get out of the country And get a faster set of wheels So he moved up to the city Got an office with a view He thought that grass was greener But he sure did get the blues CHORUS: He used to wear a greasy John Deere hat And there were patches on his jeans He was livin' in a tractor seat Instead of livin' out his dreams So he traded in his cowboy boots For a pair of wing-tip shoes But now he’s got them missin’... all that tractor ridin’... Workin’ in the big ol’ city blues Sometimes in his office chair He thinks about those days He spent on that old tractor seat And the tension starts to fade The house where gramps and granny lived And his parents place next door Are somehow lookin' better now Than they ever did before Bridge: So he’s drivin’ to the country To relax a couple days But the seat of that old tractor’s where He’ll drive his blues away CHORUS: (Repeat) Instrumental fade...
