a mellow little love song, set in the Canadian summer...
I try to write the plain truth. Honest, mellow, acoustic tunes that tell stories you can recognize, some sad, some silly.
Story behind the song
I wrote this tune at the South Country Fair, Ft. McLeod, Alberta, July 2001, & recorded it in Bob Cook's basement, August 2002, with help from Pascal Lecours (drums), Humberto Medeiros (bass) & Kyle Armstrong (djembe).
Lyrics
earth around & air above
what a lovely place to be in love
fish jumpin, pollywogs wogglin'
insects getting it on & minds bogglin
smoke dragons, happy hounds waggin
flies & butterflies ziggin & zaggin
we could dance in the mud or just do whatever
you & I could put our heads together
& talk solutions or just talk silly
sounding senses & sensibilities
we could get high to complement the weather, well
you & I could scatter our atoms together
& see what different songs ring
in the mingled spaces in between
sunny sister
your shady eyes
your dewy morning thoughts
your smooth tatooed sides
we could kick the hack & dig the sunny weather
you & I could wander
down the winding road together &
pick berries, explore & spelunk &
wonder & gape & who woulda thunk it?
well, fish jumpin, pollywogs wogglin'
insects getting it on & minds bogglin'
smoke dragons, happy hounds waggin
flies & butterflies ziggin & zaggin
earth around & air above
what a lovely place to be in love
we could raise a glass of wine & toast the weather
you & I could scatter our atoms together
& see what different songs ring
in the mingled spaces in between
we could make Chinese lamps
& float em down the river
hold each other with our bodies all aquiver
& close the tent fly against the rainy weather
you & I could zip our sleeping bags together...
