While it may be cliche, I've been wanting to write a song about Amarillo for a long time. I've taken many trips through Amarillo over the years with my dad and it was some of the best times I can remember having. While messing around one day I found a simple little tune that just screamed Amarillo. Road trips with my dad are few and far between anymore, but this is kind of like my tribute to back when life was simple, the road was open, and we had 8 feet of beef jerky to last us for a one way trip.
Lyrics
Met a girl
Just outside Amarillo
On the side of the road
On my way to New Mexico
I've been down this road more than once or twice
And never would stop to roll the dice
I'm just passing through
Gotta keep on the move
Skies are blue are
Just outside Amarillo
Running down that road
Trying my best to lose this load
I've been down this road more than once or twice
And never would stop to roll the dice
Thought I was passing through
Until I met you
There's a place
Just outside Amarillo
It's the place that
I now call home
I stopped my car and unpacked my bags
Cause this is place where my heart is at
I guess my travels are through
Because I travelled to you
