Acoustic folk rock, singer-songwriter
I've been singing since I was able to gurgle but only playing the guitar since I was 11, when my "father homeward came one day and gave to me a toy" (Thanks, Tom). That was about 50 years ago give or take a few months and I've been singing, playing and writing songs on and off, during all that time.

Story behind the song
I wrote this song when I first moved to London in 1978. I was struck by the immense contrast between poverty and riches, fine buildings housing relics and crumbling tower-blocks housing people. I thought, "if it is this bad now, what will it be like in 100 years?" I used my Gibson J200 wide open and later a good friend added the Claptonesque slide solo in the bridge. Over 25 years later I'm sad to think that not a lot has changed on the streets of London (another great song!) when I see all the homeless people.
