Story behind the song
In 1997 the Thorpe family took care of a little baby whose mom was addicted to Crack Cocaine, and they shared a room with Mrs. Lopez who had three children and an incarcerated husband. The reading of Daniel in the Lion's Den heals both babies.
Lyrics
Oft to the hospital our family had to go one mid November day. Baby Mia was very small and was not gaining weight The doctor wanted to find out what was making her that way. As I entered to the room where we were going to spend the night Mrs. Lopez was already there - with 3 children by her side. Her little baby Daniel was shaking and not sleeping very well The doctors were checking him, but still - they could not tell, what made Daniel shiver or what made Daniel shake. No matter what they tried to do - he just cry and stay awake. Her other children were frighten and I didna€™t know what to say So I decided to ask God, yes I decided we should pray. Although I could speak Spanish, it was a very little bit I had learned the language in high school a€“ but I had forgotten most of it I decided to call my friend Horacio who spoke Spanish, He was from Latin America too, Then I said to Mrs. Lopez, Horacio will help me pray for you. I listened very closely to what he had to say, and I tried not to cry As I heard him say, a€œGod does all the healing, not you or Ia€ God is right there with you giving all the strength you need God will heal those babies right now; and there is no need to fear I thanked Horacio for reminding me that God was always near! As I looked at Mrs. Lopeza€™s children who were frightened and afraid I thought of the story of Daniel in the Lions Den And wanted to read it to them, to help the children pray I asked if I could read the Bible story to her children, si a€“ Senora a€“ Mrs. Lopez said to me in Spanish she gave me her okay. So I began to read the story of Daniel that went somewhat this waya€¦ There was a boy Daniel, who was chosen to serve a mighty king But the other servants did not like him a€œthey were hating on hima€ a€“ cause he did his - best at everything! The jealous servants tricked king Darius and made him sign a law That everyone had to bow to him and not worship the one true God Anyone asking God to help him a€“ like Daniel did three times a Day Would be thrown in a den of lions - to be eaten right away. The mean guys found Daniel praying and couldna€™t wait to turn him in. Boy did Darius regret signing that rule, because of was his loyal friend. The King told Daniel a€œYour God Will Save You - I know he willa€ Yet still the King couldna€™t sleep that night - hoping he was right. The next morning the King rose up early and went straight to the Liona€™s Den, Are you safe? Are you still there? - he shouted down to his faithful friend. Oh, King Live forever Daniel replied. My God came and saved me - and sent Angels to my side. Now I told the children, God loves your little brother too. Dona€™t you think he can heal him - and make him safe for you? Yes said Isabella, the littlest of the bunch The hospital is just a Den of Lions and God can bring Daniel out! Si, they said in unison with one a€œArebaa€ shout! When the story was over we held each others hands The children repeated the words of El Padre Nuestor a€“the Lorda€™s Prayer in Spanish as if they were one band The next morning when we awoke the doctors and nurse came in to say, That Mia was all better and could go home that very day. The news didna€™t stop there; Daniel was going home tooa€¦ We would all be home for thanksgiving, giving God our gratitude.
