A Cold Night in October
This is a story, about an old man who lived on a hill. He would play his guitar on his front porch, usually when the moon was full. He would mumble a few words then strum a few chords, looking somewhat in a haze. Just around the midnight hour, this is the song he played.
The tranquil music I heard that night left me filled with a sort of peacefulness and many more midnight walks up that hill left me with questions and a feeling of curiousness. Who was this old man and why was I making this a nightly task? But every time I would hear him play this song, my mind would be filled with joyful thoughts of the past.
While days rolled by I thought to myself, what kind of life this old man must have had? To hear the music that he played around midnight made me happy but somewhat sad. He was all alone but playing his music without a care, his fretting fingers were full of life while his wrinkled face revealed a cold lifeless stare.
One cold October night I decided that I would have to meet this old man. I wanted to introduce myself after he played, that was my only plan. As I approached the old house I noticed something very strange, the house was boarded up and abandoned but I can still hear the music playing.
To my amazement under a big oak tree, a small weathered Gravesite appeared in front of me. As I read the tombstone while falling to my knees it had occurred to me, after all this time that old man on this hill was always really me.
