Tear Your Hooks Out Of My Heart

I'm a songwriter from Lockport, NY, USA. I started writing songs on a Heit acoustic guitar at age ten, and continued throughout my angst ridden high school and college years. I gave up songwriting and pretended to be an adult for a couple of decades. Now my kids are done with college and I can stop pretending. Nobody was buying it anyways. I recently started writing songs again, concentrating on songs with strong melodies that people can hum along to on their way home from work. The whole introspective, angst-ridden thing is long gone. Anyway, I can still feed any introspective tendencies by working on my musical-drama-in-progress, which has the cheery title, "The Death Book."

Story behind the song
I wrote an early draft of this song for a contest Mike Caro held on Just Plain Folks. Nobody liked it. Brandon told me it sounded like something Spinal Tap would sing. But I rewrote it with brand new music and plenty of lyric changes.
Lyrics
Tear Your Hooks Out Of My Heart ©2009 Mark Schuessler VERSE1 You had the looks You lured me in 'Cause baby that was your design You sunk your hooks Right through my skin Until you had me on a line LIFT1 Why do I miss you when you're gone? 'Cause when I'm with you this feels so, so wrong It's time to... CHORUS Tear your hooks out of my heart Just go and leave the pain At least I'll breath again Time to let the bleeding start To close the books And tear your hooks Out of my heart VERSE2 You cut my soul With just one smile And then you stopped to watch me bleed I played the role Lost in denial But I can't give you what you need LIFT2 While you've been sleeping who-knows-where Why should I keep on trying - you don't care It's time to... REPEAT CHORUS
