A song about sailing alone on the ocean, dedicated to the intrepid solo sailors of the world.
Greetings! "Midnight Closet Project" finally came about after years of threatening that one of these days I was going to set up an in house studio and start doing some recording. About a year ago I finally got serious and began putting the project together. Feel free to leave comments, I'm interested in your feedback. Hope you enjoy. - Mark
Story behind the song
Having spent many years sailing with the Singlehanded Sailing Society of Northern California, and having done several Singlehanded Transpac races across the Pacific, I finally took the advice of my friends and wrote a song about solo sailing. I tried to distill my strongest impressions into the few verses that the song allows. Hopefully it works.
Lyrics
My ship she whispers softly, in a voice I've come to know and understand so well
She tells me how she's feeling, in ways that just the two of us have come to share
I feel the wind caress us, a warm kiss from the ocean, we're alone again
So far away from ones I love, so far away, yet somehow so much closer now
Night upon the ocean, alone beneath the stars is truly magical
I've never seen a sky so bright with stars that blaze away the dark into the light
The moon upon the ocean, flowing liquid silver, flashing diamonds
Our wake streams out behind, vanishing in the darkness, softly glowing
(Chorus)
Sail on, Sail on, Sail on, Sail on
You know I'm searching for something to carry me on
Searching for something I've got to reveal
Out alone on the ocean it all becomes real
A storm upon the ocean, you take the measure of yourself and see into your soul
The wind and waves scream madly, they blind my eyes, ignore my cries, the skies they pour, the thunder roars, I have no more
The test of time is in your hands, to live or die, to stand or fall
We are so small, so very small, but somehow we are one with all
(Chorus) x2
Hi Mark, Great job... guitar sound is terrific and production is really great. Vocal harmony works really well. Thanks for letting me know! Like how you slowly build up the intensity. Kev
