Acoustic fingerstyle singer-songwriter; kind of a mashup of Leonard Cohen, Nellie McKay, Stuart Davis, Jason Mrasz, with a little Martin Simpson thrown in. Working on my CD, that I hope will be out this Spring: "The Suburban Book of the Dead."

Story behind the song
This song is dedicated to Sally, a distant angel and lifelong friend, who told me of the time and pain she went through helping her child go through drug rehabilitation only to have them return to the same dangerous friends. The image of care and pain and impossible gestures called to mind an article about a whale swimming into the Hudson River, and the frantic efforts that were made in an attempt to turn it around. The song wrote itself and tore my heart open to write it. While this will still be tweaked, it's as close to what I heard in my head as I've been able to record so far. Thank you all for listening. drD.
Lyrics
These Waters (C) WindchimeVandalMusic 2009 from the upcoming release of "The Suburban Book of the Dead" by drDave Elliott The Whale swims to the river The people sadly shake their heads and say How did such a grand and lonely creature Lose it's way? How did you swim into these waters? What caused your choice to turn? Where are the voices that could guide you? Can you hear them? Can you learn? The mayor comes to the river And the fisherman all try To change the course of that great swimmer Back to freedom, back to life. How did you swim into these waters? With your plume of diamond spray? Can we reach you, to beseech you, Make your turn and swim away? A child swims to adulthood The people sadly shake their heads and say How did such a cloud-bound angel Fall and lose her way? How did you swim into these waters? What caused your choice to turn? Where are the voices that could guide you? Can you hear them? Can you learn? You were saved once by your mother Saved again by your religion Now that all the nets are gone Will you find the open ocean? How did you swim into these waters? How did you lose your way? Can't you hear the pain of those Who watched you turn And swim away.
