Story behind the song
The story of one man's bitterness over a hard-lived life.
Lyrics
My name is Billy Coy I live down by the woods My cabin ain’t too big But still it suits me good My gun leans on the rail That runs along my porch Don’t come round here or I’ll just shoot you dead. When I was just a boy My Pappy beat me good My Momma wouldn’t stop him Although she knew she should He put food on the table But that was all she wrote She left one spring and I was all alone. I kept my ass in school For as long as I could It kept me far from home Deep down in them old woods I lied about my age Joined the army at sixteen I jumped a plane and headed cross the sea We smoked a lot of drugs And killed a lot of folk We gambled and we whored It all seemed like a joke Shot commies in the head While lookin’ ‘em in the eye It was my job and they deserved to die I got home to the States Some work I hoped to find But nothing came my way And no one seemed to mind My mind was wrecked by war My body wound up tight I was hungry and I had no place to go I finally found a man Whom my services could use. He sent me round to folks Who hadn’t paid their dues I broke some legs and arms I shot some others dead One day the cops came knockin’ at my door They sent me off to prison And put me in a cell They tried to teach me trades But I didn’t learn so well I did my time in silence And one day they let me go I hopped a bus and went back to the woods So now I sit and rock On my cabin’s porch Eat critters that I shot By the light of a torch My rifle’s on my lap So don’t you come round here I sure as hell don’t need you comin’ round
