Story behind the song
Pierre Abelard was a scholar at Notre Dame who fell in love with a young girl named Heloise. Her uncle didn't like this and had Abelard castrated in the middle of the night. Ableard joined a monastery and Heloise entered a convent. After many years, they were rejoined in spirit as children of Christ.
