My first staff writers position in Nashville was for a publisher on music row named Clarence Selman. Clarence
was not only my dear friend but one of my mentors.
Clarence and his wife Marijohn Wilkins and a few other songwriters started NSAI at Clarence and Marijohn's
Kitchen table I believe the year was 67... I met Clarence 2 weeks after he had stopped drinking.
After he stopped drinking he joined AA, and the last few years of his life he dedicated to helping others stop.
About two months after Clarence's passing I was thinking about him and our time together and it occurred to me
that I did not know the man who had been the alcoholic. That is where the title came from, The man I no longer am...
