Story behind the song
Long before Jimmy Gilmer joined the Fireballs to record such songs as "Sugar Shack" and "Bottle of Wine", the Fireballs had recorded some instruments that led to Dick Clark calling them "the surf band from Albuquerque, New Mexico". At the time, they didn't quite know what he was talking about, but Bulldog, and Torquay are still popular in the surf genre now, almost 50 years later.
