Story behind the song
I wanted to write a song about the Lone Star State for Texans or people who love the state and I wanted them to realize the song was about Texas without ever saying Texas in the lyrics.
Lyrics
Rio and Red Written by James Watson Copyright (c) Starbound Publishing Co. I've been all around I've traveled around but the best place I've seen was coverin' ground from the Panhandle down and over to the Sabine It'll always be home in my heart and my head now you're sure to find me somewhere between the Rio and Red She was barely eighteen she was still in her teens when I took a fall for a Hill Country queen with boots and blue jeans and a soft downhome drawl I said, " Come stay with me, Won't you please marry me and sleep in my bed" She said, " Well, I'm pretty keen, if we can live in between the Rio and Red." When the Lord sets me free, When the Lord calls on me When I am dead Tell 'em "Please bury me, Somewhere between, the Rio and Red."
