Trabue Gentry began writing music at age twelve and has since penned over 150 musical compositions.
Trabue Gentry began writing music at age twelve and has since penned over 150 musical compositions. In the 70's he teamed with friends Kevin Sterner and Dennis Neff, performing live shows in the midwest. Neff moved on to other musical ventures, and Gentry and Sterner continued composing and performing as a duo. In 1977, the two met with a major Nashville record producer, Pete Drake, and were offered a recording contract on the spot. Most unfortunately, personal issues prevented them from moving forward with the deal. Overwhelmed by the dissapointment over this lost opportunity, Gentry abandoned music and pursued other business interests. Gentry and Sterner went their separate ways. Years later Gentry and Sterner crossed paths again, resuming their friendship and rekindling their interest in music, even revisiting the possibilities of releasing some of those songs the Nashville producer was convinced had great promise. Today Gentry is working on several musical projects, new and old. Realizing he can't rely on others to make things happen, he's pulled some of those lost treasures off the shelf for a revisit and began composing new. Other musicians have since demonstrated great interest in working on some of these previously unreleased tunes. Gentry is now working on several creative musical collaborations and is crafting the World Music Project, a cross-continental project with promising new artists.

Story behind the song
Lyrics
A man and a horse and a stick were once used To uncover treasures the earth had consumed searching for something he hoped to have Each Fall he planted his dreams with his seeds And every Spring he would harvest his needs Oh, that the soil fulfilled all of his dreams A town had now sprouted on this good man's land And everyone told him he needed a hand They said that they'd give him a hand They took his horse from him and gave him machines In place of his stick why they gave him their dreams They gave him more than he had hoped to have While they were all busy on building their town the simple man toiled on tilling the ground searching for the treasures he knew he once had Each Fall he planted their dreams with his seeds And, every Spring he would harvest their needs Oh, he fulfilled all of their dreams The town they had built was now really quite grand But, the land all around them was turning to sand Overworked, the land and the man would soon die His last words were simple as he was a man To honor him, would they please build him a dam But for just this one man, they could not give a damn Just as he passed away, then came a storm The river did flow, and the valley was torn Oh, the valley was torn Everyone stated their lost and their found as they sifted through muddied up ground Searching for something they once thought they had Mountains of rubble are monuments now left behind to be turned by the plow where a man and a horse and a stick were once used
