A rather rough version of a blues for Sharon, my wife's beloved mom, who moved on to the next plane of existence early this year. I'm hoping to get Jill to sing it before too long.
Melodic music for the heart and mind...
I jis' kinda play 'round, ya know? Hope y'all likezit!
Story behind the song
Shortly after Sharon's passing, I was riding through the local hills on my bicycle, when the lyrics came to me more or less all at once. I'd written the music months before, and the one line, "Let it Go." I couldn't quite understand at that time why this line jumped out at me. Later, it became quite clear.
Lyrics
Let it Go
For Sharon Callahan, 3-1-09
Let it go, let it go.
Just let my spirit pass through the door,
There’s too much pain on this good earth,
Don’t want to feel it any more
Sometimes you’ve just got to let it go.
Take my memories to Mendocino,
Let me rest beside the deep blue sea,
Don’t worry about my soul,
It’s out of my control,
I’ve got a higher power lookin’ out for me,
Let it go, let it go.
Just let my spirit pass through the door,
There’s too much pain on this good earth,
Don’t want to feel it any more
Sometimes you’ve just got to let it go.
Only time is gonna find a way,
To help you heal a little every day,
But I’m in your hearts forever, I will always find you.
Even in my final, peaceful rest,
Know for you I only want the best,
Where I am you won’t have to guess, I’ll be right behind you.
Let it go, let it go
Just let my spirit fly through the door,
There’s too much pain on this here life,
But I’ve got to let you know
You did your best so don’t regret it,
I love you all, please don’t forget it,
Sometimes you’ve just got to let it go
