Story behind the song
The pinon trees in the American Southwest require a hundred years of growth before they begin producing the nuts upon which the Indians in that region depended as a major part of their diet. Yet, the U.S. Forest Service (part of the U.S. Agriculture Dept) allowed thousands of acres of these trees to be bulldozed to provide grazing land for cattle.
