Story behind the song
I was inspired to write and record this song for an old friend and band mate from my high school days. Mark and I were co-founders of a popular rock band, "J. Mann Co." (see picture art for "The Music Plays On") We won several Battle of the Bands competitions around Dallas, Tx). During my return trip Texas in 2009 to attend my second WaxaJam reunion (see Story Behind the Music for "The Music Plays On"), Mark and I were able to reunite for the first time in almost 30 years. Mark, my old friend, this song is dedicated to you. Mark had told me over the phone about a movie with Bob Dylan music in it that he had enjoyed watching. A few days later, I was watching a movie about Bob Dylan and thinking of Mark as I listened to the old Dylan tunes we both used to like, but had to stop in the middle of the movie and go to the piano so this song could emerge. Mark and all the old times were on my mind throughout the entire writing and recording process. This first "draft" of a brand new creation may morph yet again as a song. But is definitely for Mark. SO glad we're still here, let's keep on rockin, my friend! (update: Mark has since passed on. RIP my brother!)
