Story behind the song
This song was written for an album I'm working on, The Finish Line. I've recently gotten back into running, and compiled a set of running tracks for the Couch to 5K (C25K) 9-week program. This song is too late for that project (I completed it a year ago) but it needed to be written. It asks the question to all of us who are attending church, but never really entering the race (giving our all to Jesus and trusting Him as our Savior, instead of trusting in our own works). 'When will you sign the Entrance Sheet and enter the race?' I think this line sums it up best: 'You can never win, if you don't enter in...' Those who fail to enter THIS race will end up being 'The Biggest Loser'.

Sidelines ©2009 Christopher M Solaas Sitting in the shade, killing time Drinking lemonade, with a squeeze of lime Behind the barricades, by the finish line, Just sitting on the sidelines Watching as they come, the first you spy Cheering as they run, and flash on by Wishing you were one, but you won’t try, Just sitting on the sidelines. Chorus1: Get up on your feet, and sign the entrance sheet Enter in the race, my friend! You can never win, if you don’t enter in, Or would you rather just pretend? There is another race, another crown That will never fade, or rust turn brown You can start today, what holds you down? Get up off the sidelines! In this race for Christ, we must take part He has paid the price, when will you start? Give the Lord your life, and your broken heart, And get up off the sidelines! Chorus2: Consider all the cost, then take up your cross, I’ll run with you to the end! For a heart that’s pure, and a crown that will endure Or will you simply be content, Sitting in the shade, killing time Drinking lemonade, with a squeeze of lime Behind the barricades, by the finish line, Sitting on the sidelines
