Story behind the song
The Original Onyx. Tony Wiese - Guitar, & Lead Vocals. Jack Mondlak - Keyboards. John Flannagan - Bass Guitar. Bob Holzner - Drums, & Percussion. This song was written by John Flannagan and recorded during July of 1978. We wrote and recorded a number of songs after our original guitarist, Glenn Spence, quit the band. James Latimer was in the band for a brief time after Glenn quite the band but left the band after a short period. This song was written and recorded during that time when we decided to continue as a four-piece band. James did come back a few months later to again be in the band and we stayed together through our final gig in 1980 (reunion show). The original tape of this version of the song is lost or missing. This recording comes from a second generation tape I found in my box of tapes and is not recorded on the prefered tapes of Maxell or TEAC. There is an amount of hiss being I had to boost the treble to compensate for the highly bassy sounding low generation version of this song. This version of the song does not have the gong but the percussion instruments (bells, and chimes) are quite audible in the mix. Unlike the gong version of this song the percussion parts are not audible at all. This version was recorded by Mike Mills with assistance from Phil Sypniewski.
