Story behind the song
Jackie Bartels lives in Iowa and is afflicted with a torturous condition of equilibrium loss, which causes her to be dizzy continuously. Even with this, she is able to write beautiful poetry and display it to the world on web pages that she creates herself. It was through these web pages that I became aware of her work. Shortly after first seeing her poems we began corresponding with email. I have always enjoyed collaboration with other writers, adding music to their words. Jackie and I have turned out a number of wonderful songs together. When she showed me the lyrics to “Living Without Love,” I knew I was looking at a very special and emotional song and was chomping at the bit to set it to music. I later found out that she had written it for her father who had recently passed away. Today, many people have heard Jackie’s song and agree that it is not only beautiful but also vocally one of my best.
