Story behind the song
Wrote it in response to Lynyrd Skynyrd's "What's Your Name?" - I thought, "you don't want to know my name..." and it went from there.
Lyrics
You dona€™t want to know my name, you dona€™t really want my number
You dona€™t want to see me again; why bother to lie?
We are just two strangers, strangely attracted to each other
And the night is cool but you are warm and so am I
Come on down, down, down; you can sit here beside me
And I wona€™t tell your girlfriend, I wona€™t even tell your wife
a€˜Cause I wona€™t even be here, the sun rises behind me
Just buy me a drink and spin me a dance and get on with your life
a€˜Cause Ia€™m going to walk on by, Lord
Ia€™m going to walk on by
Just walk on by
Help me to turn aside
Walk on by, Lord; teach me to walk on by
a€˜Cause temptation is strong and falling is sweet
But Ia€™ll walk on by
Dona€™t bother to ask, ita€™s not your business why I came here
My husbanda€™s at home; I guess he likes sleeping alone
But I dona€™t, I dona€™t; Ia€™m just a little more friendly
And deep in my heart therea€™s a fatal flaw that prompts me to roam
But Ia€™m going to walk on by, Lord
Ia€™m going to walk on by
Just walk on by, Lord, Lord
Help me to turn aside
Walk on by, Lord; teach me to walk on by
a€˜Cause temptation is strong and falling is sweet
But Ia€™ll walk on by
