Story behind the song
We were asked to write a song for Karley by a friend of Karley's family. We read the details of what happened to this beautiful, innocent pup and of course there was no question we would try to write a song that would speak out against the terrible act of barbaric cruelty that lead to Karley losing her life and help to highlight her family's struggle for justice, we wanted it to be like a picture of the day before she was so cruelly cut down and killed when she was carefree and happy.
Lyrics
'Karley' Karley how could anybody hurt you dear? I only have to see your face to feel the tears So young and sweet and carefree playing puppy games Your innocence is pure as life, a candle flame. No reason to explain why one so young should die Why brutal hands took hold of you, put out the light Go gently in the arms of love eternal rest And know that we will fight for you, we'll do our best. Karley in the sunshine Karley we call your name Karley for the good times There's gonna come a brighter day The one who hurt you gotta pay Justice gotta be the word we pray. Karley there's a world within a world of pain And sometimes human beings work in evil ways They cannot always see the love before their eyes Loss is hurt and hurt is loss to realise We must stay strong and hope and pray for better days To teach the ones who missed the call along the way Show the world the precious care for living things A message in our sorrow surely kindness brings. Karley in the sunshine Karley we call your name Karley for the good times There's gonna come a brighter day The one who hurt you gotta pay Justice gotta be the word we pray. Karley in the sunshine Karley we call your name Karley for the good times There's gonna come a brighter day The one who hurt you gotta pay Justice gotta be the word we pray. Won't you hear it now, won't you hear it now C'mon! © Maria Daines/Paul Killington 21.12.08

Maria and Paul, you two never fail to amaze me, every song I hear from you is gold, very special, no matter what the feel or style, it's always first class. It all starts with great songwriting, that has superb lyrics and melody that cut deep into the listener's heart. Karley is no exception, it's an absolutely beautifully written and performed song. After a hard day's work, I'm just in a laid back bluesy mood...listening to your whole page tonight and wishing you two the best for this New Year. I realize there's no justice in this music business, cause if there was, you two would be at the top of the world right now...in my mind, you are.

If i could give 10 stars i would. You guys have never done a bad song...and so many are truly great...and this one is right up near the top. I say that because when listening, you can just feel how this song was born from compassion. The lyrics, phrasing, and musical arrangement fit like they were born together. It rolls out SOO smoothly and shares this tragic event in a way that refuses to dwell on the negative, but rather throws a golden beam of hope and love on Karley's short life. Bless you both...this song is fantastic!
