"Jesus saved my soul once"
Heather Morris Cowles
I was born in that red GA clay as Daddy shouted " Amen"
we later moved to Alabama where I was born again
one foot in the church and one in trouble half the time
I remember the day that I was baptized
Daddy told the preacher, you better dunk this one twice
chorus
Jesus saved my soul
when I was 12 years old
and that water sure was cold in Kowaliga lake
but I was reckless & wild
and Mama told me child
"one day you're gonna wind up in an early grave "
now lookin' back there ain't no doubt in my mind
Jesus saved my soul once, but my skin many times
v
21 and I'd been drinkin' drivin' home from some bar
I was totally smashed and so was my car
somehow I walked away with just a bruised up knee
don't know how I survived the way I hit that tree
I guess the good Lord must have had His hand on me
chorus
bridge
those days are gone along with that rebel attitude
now every night I hit my knees and give Him thanks and gratitide
