A depressing take upon Mozart's 'Twinkle Twinkle Little Star' theme.
[the following is copied and pasted from my main page] As a composer, I'm pretty much a composer on the side. When I have an idea, I write it down and go with it, but I don't focus all my musical energy into being a composer. I actually go through phases, or "seasons" as I would call if, of composing. I may compose very solidly for a few months on end and then not compose a thing for months on end. I am very much passionate about the compositions I do write. I also begin virtually every composition with pencil and staff paper, only transferring it onto an electronic medium (such as MakeMusic(tm)/Finale(tm)) as it becomes a finished product.

Story behind the song
I wrote this as an assignment to write a piece in one of the lesser used modes. This piece, in E-Phrygian, is based on the "Twinkle Twinkle Little Star" theme by Mozart. Being in Phrygian, however, it is much more depressing! Hence, the name "Death of a Star." This piece is nicely developed, exploring and re-exploring various moods and intensities. Although each voice compliments one another, they often stubbornly play separately, ignoring many basic rules of counterpoint such as tritones and parallel fourths/fifths. This would make for an excellent piece for two solo instruments, such as two recorders!
