The synth is the dominate instrument, epic and etherial, dynamic and sometimes unpredictable, yet at the end there is rest because the final outcome is certain.

Story behind the song
This was something I worked on independent of Prodigal Son, with Prodigal Son bassist Daniel Gonzalez. It was to be a 60 second recorded work for the intent of being used as material under a "voice over" at the request of a local radio station. We ended up using only my Alesis QS7 synth, opting to do something unlike anything we ever thought that we would do in Prodigal Son. We submitted a 60 second mix of the midi sequence with the tempo speeded up to keep it 60 seconds or less. We don't know what ever became of it. Later, I dug up the file, changed the tempo on a whim, & it sounded so much darker and epic. I decided upon the title "Mysterium Fidei" which is Latin for "The Mystery of Faith", because I thought it captured the dynamic ups and downs of what living a life of faith can sometimes feel like.
