Story behind the song
This tune is from a 1993 release recorded as BD, RAINY DAYS: THE SOUNDTRACK OF MY TEARS. This story is true. It's about the birth of a vocal style. However, at that time, no one recognized nor had the genius to appreciate it,...present company, included. I share the details of my saga, now, with all the names intact, to reveal the guilty. A'drew, we done good, after all! ___________________________________"In the fall of 1993, ...I recorded a Jazz Standards Project in Philadelphia, executive produced by Andrew Eisenstein, that, for various personal reasons (sounds ominous, doesn't it?), I chose not to release at that time. Ironically, the tune, Rainy Days and Mondays, has actually been my most successful song, on MP3.com ...long before the infamous payback-for-playback... and was the only tune heard from that hitherto unreleased project! After much prayer, and thoughtful consideration, I decided to revisit the project, and discovered, after several listens, it was important enough to be shared, publicly, after all! Forgive me for taking so long to understand that 'the art of the song' is often it's own reward. If you listen closely, you'll soon witness the evolution of my particular (and peculiar) phrasing and also get to hear some incredible musicians, PLAY!! That's renowned Bassist, Charles Fambrough and Tim Warfield, Jr. on Saxophones, amongst a host of other excellent guest musicians. I'm particularly fond of the version of The Beatles's Yesterday, featuring Charles Fambrough on Piano! All things considered, I offer these gems, humbly to you now. Please take a few moments to listen to or download, Rainy Days: The Soundtrack of My Tears, and I promise to never again take this long to share my soul's artistry. Oh, by the way, I'm still seriously involved with my inspirational ministry. BE LIGHT...,BD ======================================== "We had a BALL listening to the CD, Rainy Days! I am very, very proud to see the fruit (beginnings, that is) of all your labor and faithfulness through all the trials and growth... So much heart and feeling. I hope to see you in Europe at the jazz festivals one day, soon!!!!!" *** KIRK WHALUM *** Jazz/Gospel Saxophonist, Nashville, TN
Lyrics
Yesterday
(John Lennon and Paul McCartney)
Yesterday,
Love was such an easy game to play
Now I need a place to hide away,
Oh I believe, In Yesterday.
Suddenly,
Im not half the man I used to be
Theres a shadow hanging over me,
And yesterday, Came suddenly
Soprano Sax Solo:
Jesse Andrus
Yesterday,
Love was such an easy game to play,
Now I need a place to hide away
Oh I believe, in yesterday
Suddenly,
Im half the man I used to be
Theres a shadow hanging over me,
And yesterday, came suddenly.
Why did she, have to go?
I dont know! She wouldnt say..
I must have said something wrong..
Now I long for yesterday
Yesterday, I long for yesterday,
Why did she go, Where did she go??
Where are my yesterdays?
My yesterdays.
