Story behind the song
It was a few years back. I had written the original version to this song, and played it on my guitar, for a young lady who later became my wife.
Lyrics
Have You Loved A Fool Today? GDMartin (verse 1) I planned our evening from my bed, my heart’s a valentine that says, “I want you” in my head; Love hit me from behind. I paced a trail beside my phone, and practiced things to say, 'cause soon I'll waltz up to your door, with two left feet of clay. (chorus) “The Fool of Taking Chances”, I've chanced it, once again; those “let’s be friends” romances swing ‘round my every bend. This love that's new, and finding you took each prayer that I could pray; I’ll be asking at your doorstep, “Have you loved a fool today?” (verse 2) I know a love-clown’s ups and downs, where good times end too fast; I'd finally get my heart in gear, then hear, "Tonight’s the last"! If I’m with you, before we’re through I hope we’ll find a way to make tonight last forever, and ever everyday. (chorus) “The Fool of Taking Chances”, I've chanced it, once again; those “let’s be friends” romances swing ‘round my every bend. This love that's new, and finding you took each prayer that I could pray; I’ll be asking at your doorstep, “Have you loved a fool today?” (tag) Some fools will walk through empty dreams, and dream their love away; but this fool is full of love for you… Won’t you love this fool today?
