Singer/Songwriter, Country with a blues and rock influence
Singing has always been this Jersey Girl's life-long love. Born and raised in northeast New Jersey, Tiffany Carlen grew up with the sounds of Patsy Cline, The Judds, Dean Martin, Tanya Tucker, and Ray Charles, to mention a few, playing on her parents radio. Her Spiritual upbringing by her parents provided her the avenue to sing in front of a Church family, first with her Dad and then duets with her sister, and she extended her talents to school chorus and plays. She planted her boots in Texas in 1996 and has called it home ever since. While residing in Fort Worth, she spent several years singing at various Opry houses, and while in living in the “music city” Lubbock, she sang with South 87 and worked her way into the music circle. Her country roots and talented family can be traced back to the Dunn Sisters, a local trio from Illinois, to today’s Michael Carlen, an established gospel singer and evangelist. “As I grew up and expanded my ear for music, I was influenced by Reba, Trisha Yearwood, Stevie Nicks, Wynonna, Bonnie Raitt, Etta James and Billy Joel, to name a few. I appreciate the talent of singer/songwriters and have a passion for writing. The versatile sounds I love to listen to is what helped me establish my own style, country, with a touch of blues and classic rock and the soul of the Carlen family heritage.” Her passion for the sound of a voice and her ear for the piano is what brings her to this juncture in life. She’s drawn to pen and paper to let her feelings and stories flow, and has been playing piano for more than 20 years. “Every person comes to a crossroads in his or her life where you have to decide which way to go. So here I go a journey I have enjoyed so far and I can’t wait to see where to next. Only God knows where I will land.” Tiffany currently lives in the Fort Worth area while she works to complete her first album as an unsigned artist. Story behind the song
I was thinking back to the days of waitressing and I pictured this cafe in my head, one I've never been in. It was playing like a video and the words and melody just came along. A woman, waitressing, intrigued by a guy who comes in everyday...he's taken by her, but she's taken...but she's curious about him nonetheless..who isn't when someone takes notice? I think she is also reminding herself that's she's taken.
Lyrics
Taken © 2007 V1 I spend my days here servin coffee and tea Makin just enough money to keep me on my feet I’ve seen you watchin’ me walk across the café floor And I can feel your eyes grab me as I walk out the door Chorus I’m taken, oh oh heart and soul Yes I’m taken, no I’m not alone And I’m shaken, cause the way you look at me, Oh but can’t ya see, oh that I’m taken, I’m taken, oh oh I’m taken. V2 Everyday you sit in the same ol seat With a stack of books drinkin your black coffee I can’t help but wonder what your always readin bout And I’m wonderin what exactly makes your heart spin around Chorus I’m taken, oh oh heart and soul Yes I’m taken, no I’m not alone And I’m shaken, cause the way you look at me, Oh but can’t ya see, that I’m taken, I’m taken, oh oh I’m taken.
