One Day in August (Excerpt)
This is the first seven and a half minutes of my new extended piece, 'One Day in August,' which is an all-improvised, 48-minute guitar showcase.

Story behind the song
This is an all-improvised piece for guitars, bass and drums, which I recorded on August 25, 2008. The only thing I worked out in advance was a rough notion of the chord progression for the initial section. I was heavily inspired for this by Frank Zappa, John Coltrane, and the great free-jazz multi-instrumentalist Sam Rivers. I've posted the first seven minutes of the piece here, but the whole thing can be downloaded for free at my Music V2 page, http://www.musicv2.com/artist/chrisoberst .
