Story behind the song
There is a house on here in town that sits on he National Road (U.S. 40) that caught my attention. The folks there are always on there porch, at least when its nice out anyway. The house, in it's day, was most likely one the nicer ones on the east side of Greenfield. But now it's old, and a little rough around the edges. Just a good portrait of rual U.S.A. everywhere, I thought. All of the character are real people, but none of them live in old house in question. However, I believe we're all in the same boat.
