This is a site to get songwriters in Oldham (UK) to display their wares. We hope that it will become a central point for local songwriters to come to upload their songs and to check out what other songwriters in the area are up to. If we can build this community we would like to organise events etc. that will be of general interest to like-minded people. We welcome any suggestions that will improve the site.

Story behind the song
The song was inspired by Neil Young's Cortez The Killer but taking a different character from history. 18 Rabbit was a Mayan Ruler from the 7th century. He was responsible for building the Hieroglyphic Staircase and the magnificent Temple 22 hence the line 'raised Temple 22' in the song. He showed no mercy when attacking enemies of the Mayan civilisation hence the lyric 'He'll rip our bleeding hearts out again'. He suffered a violent death in 738 when he was beheaded. A statue of 18 Rabbit still stands at Copan. Karl Jones has his own Soundclick Site at: http://members.soundclick.com/karljones Karl Jones has a MySpace site at: myspace.com/uklivingeyes
Lyrics
18 Rabbit Watch me walk out of here Hieroglyphics are on the wall loud and clear Mayan statues stand 50 feet tall carved into stone The bodies lay in the dust, skulls and bones Chorus So come on baby take a trip with me back to 695 AD You ruled you kingdom with an iron hand Nowadays we don’t understand You’ll rip our bleeding hearts out again Verse 2 Watch me walk through these ruins And watch me walk through these mountains Priest and astronomer, raised Temple 22 Searching for a world that’s new Repeat chorus
