Story behind the song
This song came out of my experience working with prolife groups and hearing the stories of women who were trying to recover from their choice to end their pregnancy.
Lyrics
You Never Knew Me ¡VI Forgive You „¶ 1999 Lynn Breaux
You never knew the first time, I touched my hand to my face,
You never knew the first time, my heart beat in my chest,
You never knew the first time, I sucked my thumb,
You never knew me.
All these things I did, when I was in your womb, Where I thought I was safe and loved,
Then they came and tore me out of you, Can you believe you told them to?
I didn¡¦t get to smile, my first smile for you, I didn¡¦t get to take, my first step for you,
I didn¡¦t get to say, my first I love you, Momma, I forgive you.
Please Momma ask forgiveness from the One who put me there,
The One who put you there,
His love for you is such, that he will wash you clean,
Just do the things he asks of you.
I never got to hit my first homerun for you, I never got to bring home, my first girl for you,
I never got to show, my first child to you, Momma, I forgive you.
Now you know there are girls who are just like you were,
With babes inside who are just like me,
Please Momma, tell them how, the choice you made back then
Is not the one you¡¦d make now.
I want to show you, your first angel, I want to hold your hand,
When you walk through the gates,
I want to watch when He gives you your wings,
Momma, I forgive you.
You need to come to Jesus, let Him wash your sins,
Let Him heal your wounds, rest in His embrace,
He will gather you up, and shower you with grace,
He will give you life, He will bring you peace.
