Running From Nineveh
Written by: Jim Allbery
I hear the Lord calling,
But I'm scared of what he might have to say.
So I try to avoid him--
I guess I try to run away.
Just like old Jonah, oh so many years ago,
I hear him calling me, but I'm to scared to go...
I'm running from Nineveh,
And the fear of the unknown.
Running from Nineveh:
It's safer here at home.
Running from Nineveh:
It's here I'd rather stay.
Surely God and all his power
Doesn't need me, anyway.
(He can find another way...)
Well, Jonah heard the call.
He knew he should listen to the Lord.
But when he saw ship bound for the other way
He decided to climb aboard.
But when that storm rose up
And the ship was nearly lost,
He learned the mighty one
Was no one you should cross...
He was running from Nineveh:
He was trying to get away.
Running from Nineveh:
But the Lord will find a way...
Running from Nineveh:
Well, I guess you know the tale.
Jonah wound up on the inside
Of the belly of a whale...
(The belly of a whale...)
I have my "Ninevehs",
And I bet that you have yours, too.
And when we hear the Lord calling,
We know what we should do...
Trust in the Lord--
Lay our worries to the side.
Trust him to lead us home,
And always to provide!
And go to Nineveh,
If he says that we should go.
Just go to Nineveh,
Just because the Lord said so.
Just go to Nineveh,
For his will always prevails.
And if you don't, you better watch out...
You better watch out for the whales!
(Yeah, watch out for those whales...)
My foolish pride is just
A lie and a facade.
I'm going to live my faith,
And put my trust in God!
And run to Nineveh--
Going to do what the Lord commands.
Run to Nineveh--
I'll put my trust in his loving hands!
Run to Nineveh,
For his love always prevails...
And his love is better... it's so much better...
His love is better-- better than a whale!
(The belly of a whale...
The Lord will prevail...
Gonna learn from Jonah's tale...)
